THE EYES HAVE IT

There is usually not much room for architectural innovation in a retail park on the highway, but the new Eye Cinema in Galway, Ireland is a noteworthy exception. Douglas Wallace Architects have designed a refreshing and unique cinema that turns the traditional stereotype on its head. Views in and out of the building are a key part of the experience, and the cinemas themselves are artfully crafted and dramatic. Next week, architectural journalist Terri Whitehead will explain why this is no typical multiplex.

FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT DESIGN FINALLY LIVES

What would you do if you were given the task of building a house with only five pencil drawings to go by? Architect Thomas Heinz, AIA faced that question when he was chosen to bring to life an island home that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright 50 years ago but never built. To better understand the building, Heinz modeled it in ArchiCAD and created hundreds of views. Next week writer Susan Smith will explain his process and the Wrightian result.
