Elmhurst · 2005.1006
Graf & Lewent Architects (GLA) recently completed a design concept master plan for Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology, located in East Elmhurst (Queens) in New York City. GLA's project entailed a comprehensive architectural programming and planning review with preliminary design for the renovation and construction of campus facilities, including conceptual planning for a new 200-student residence hall. The core of GLA's master plan effort was design concepts for the college's proposed major additions: a new library/ community resource center, conference center, and student center, located at the heart of the main building. GLA capitalized on this new campus focal point and designed a sky lit "quad" space at the junction of the major new facilities, and the crossroads of the circulation in the college building.

New York · 2005.1003
The Board of Trustees of the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York has announced that it will host a groundbreaking ceremony on the morning of October 11, 2005, to launch construction of its new building on the Bowery. Designed by Tokyo-based firm of Sejima and Nishizawa/SANAA, the new 60,000-square-foot (5600-square-meter), seven-story New Museum will be the first art museum building constructed in downtown Manhattan in over a century. The new New Museum will rise on the site of what is currently a parking lot at 235 Bowery. A dramatic stack of rectangular boxes shifted off axis in different directions, dressed in silvery metal cladding, and punctuated by skylights and windows offering vistas and vignettes of the city, the building will feature expansive flexible, column-free exhibition spaces, a 188-seat theater, a lobby bookstore, expanded classrooms, library and study center, cafe, and rooftop terraces facing south and east over the cityscape. The new New Museum of Contemporary Art is scheduled to open to the public on the Bowery in late 2007, in conjunction with the institution’s 30th anniversary.
