PARLIAMENTARY SYMBOL OF THE SCOTTISH PEOPLE

The award-winning new Scottish Parliament, designed by the late architect Spanish Enric Miralles, sits at the foot of Edinburgh's Royal Mile in front of Holyrood Park and Salisbury Crags. The building is vastly ambitious and complex. It is also short-listed for the prestigious Stirling Prize, which will be announced next week. CROSSING MOON RIVER IN STYLE

On a marsh off Georgia's Skidaway River is a thoroughly modern new house that would be remarkable in any setting. At night it glows like a stage within the frame of its cantilevered terraces. But the house, designed by architecture professor Tim Woods, was not initially welcomed into its neotraditional gated community.
