    Adache Group Architects, Inc. of Fort Lauderdale, Florida has completed design work on several new resort and hotel projects. The newest project is the Trump Tower Hotel which will be built in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Despite the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, plans are still underway for this project, which will be the tallest building in New Orleans when completed. The building, first announced in the spring, would be one of the first new high-rises constructed in the city in more than 25 years and could reach 750 feet, or 70 stories. Also in the works are the European Mediterranean-style Palazzo del Lago Resort & Residence project located on Lake Bryan in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, and a new Marriott Resort & Spa in Pompano Beach, Florida. Biloxi, Mississippi will see a Resort Hotel and Condominium built on its own island overlooking the Gulf of Mexico: the 38-story Portofino at the Broadwater project. The 'W' Resort & Residences in Ft. Lauderdale has broken ground and is expected to be completed in early 2007.

    After 27 years as Fox & Fowle Architects, the New York, New York design firm is now FXFOWLE ARCHITECTS, PC. The announcement was made by Bruce Fowle, FAIA, LEED and Daniel Kaplan AIA, senior principals of the firm, attended by their 6 partners. Current high-profile projects include: the Second Avenue Subway; the New York Times building; The Lion House at the Bronx Zoo; the Helena residential tower in Manhattan; the Nassau Hub Redevelopment Plan; the addition to the Juilliard School and the renovation of Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center; and the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University.

    Moseley Architects, a full service architectural, engineering, planning, and interior design firm, is pleased to announce John W. Hasten, AIA has been made a vice president of the firm and will also serve as the director of K-12 Education in the firm's Virginia Beach, Virginia Studio. Hasten has more than 30 years experience in the design and construction industry has been recognized for his work on educational projects in the Mid-Atlantic region and nationally.

    A major new campus facility at Stony Brook University, the 104,000 square foot Humanities Building, designed by Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners LLP, has opened. Realized at a cost of $20 million, the project provides 52,000 square feet of new space and 52,000 square feet of completely renovated space for several of the University's departments of language, communication, and culture studies. The entrance to the Humanities Building is oriented toward the central fountain of the Academic Mall and is curved to echo the fountain's form. The exterior is principally made of brick, like the original Stony Brook buildings. The entrance leads into a skylit, two-story atrium, which links the new building to the renovated building and provides a common space for all of the departments in the building. Construction of the Humanities Building was completed on budget and ahead of schedule.

    Three new people have been added to the architectural design staff of the Chicago, Illinois firm Loebl Schlossman & Hackl: Jason Neitzel, Janneth Zarate Beltran, and David Giroux. Jason Neitzel has a diverse portfolio of project building types. His current work for the firm includes the City of Naperville’s downtown mixed-use parking facility study. Prior to joining Loebl Schlossman & Hackl, Neitzel worked for Griskelis Young Harrell in Chicago. Janneth Zarate Beltran’s experience includes a range of projects from high-rise mixed-use buildings to retirement facilities and construction of exhibition-quality architectural models. David Giroux, who recently completed his Masters in Architecture, previously worked for several years at D A S Architects in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

    Cubellis Associates of Boston, Massachisettes has completed its second merger of 2005: Cubellis MGDF. Created by the joining of Cubellis Associates and Chicago-based Mann Gin Dubin & Frazier, Ltd. (MGDF), this merger adds to the firm’s presence in Chicago, Illinois. Led by Dick Mann, AIA, and Peter Dubin, AIA, MGDF is an architectural firm with nearly 30 years of specialized expertise in senior housing, educational, restaurant, multi-family residential, and hotel facilities. Cubellis Associates is a 220-person, multi-disciplinary firm that provides architecture, interior design, structural, and civil engineering services.

    Ehrenkrantz Eckstut & Kuhn Architects (EE&K) has announced the opening of Phase I of the Brightwood Elementary School renovation in Washington, D.C., which will expand and modernize an existing 1926-era building. It is the first school built directly by the District of Columbia Public Schools in nearly three decades. The three phases of construction entail demolishing two temporary buildings; constructing a new Commons Building (Phase 1) and classroom wing; and modernizing the entire existing school. The new Commons Building features environments that were not previously available to the students, staff, and community, including: a gym; a cafeteria with food service; a media center; art and music rooms; occupational and physical therapy rooms; health and administrative suites; and an accessible entry.

    Mahlum Architects of Portland, Oregon, have announced the addition of Rick Potestio as principal. The firm offers a broad range of architecture, planning, and interiors services from offices in Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon. Founded in the Northwest in 1938, the firm has contributed some of the region’s major landmarks, as well as significant public work and private sector design throughout the West coast. Mahlum works on projects in areas including healthcare, education, technology, commercial, housing, and cultural/public.
