AWARD-WINNING LANDSCAPES

In July 2005, the American Society of Landscape Architects announced the recipients of its 2005 Professional Awards. The recipients represented a range of scales and project types, from residential gardens to municipal spaces like the "Heart of the Park" at Hermann Park in Houston, Texas by SWA Group and Olin Partnership, Ltd. VISUALIZING SMART GROWTH

Fort Carson, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is experiencing a population boom. In an effort to treat land planning in a more sustainable and sensitive way, the community is applying geographic information systems, specifically the CommunityViz tool, which produces data-based visualizations that enable local participants to envision the spatial, economic, and visual effects of their choices. Next week, author Susan Smith will explain how the tool works to benefit community decision making.
