    Mark J. Cork and Leroy A. Landers have been selected as principals for the Seattle, Washington firm of Mahlum Architects. Cork has been nationally recognized with a 2005 AIA/COTE Green Project Award, and Landers is an expert in healthcare, education, and housing.

    The Los Angeles, California office of HGA Architects & Engineers has been chosen to design the $38 million Math and Science Complex at East Los Angeles Community College in Monterey Park, California. The 140,000-square-foot facility is tentatively slated for completion in 2008. The complex, located on a sloped site, will contain four levels, three of which are above the main plaza area. Under the direction of James Matson, AIA, and project designer Roxanne Nelson, AIA, the new complex will be completed while the campus remains fully operational and will house several departments, including chemistry, physics, life sciences, and earth sciences.  The complex will also feature lecture-style classrooms, lab spaces, computer classrooms, support spaces, and four lecture halls.

    Fox & Fowle Architects has announced the appointment of Carl Hauser, AIA as studio manager of the firm's interiors studio in New York, New York.  He will be joining principal Guy Geier in managing the firm's work on a wide range of interiors projects including corporate, retail, educational, cultural spaces, and high-end residential projects. Hauser has previously held positions at a several firms including Hillier Architecture, HLW International, AJ Contracting Company, CRSS Architects in Los Angeles, Swanke Hayden Connell Architects, and the New York City Mayor's Office of Construction.

    Garrison Architects, a full-service architectural firm based in Manhattan, New York, is pleased to announce the addition of Salvatore Tranchina as a project architect. Tranchina will focus on reinforcing the firm's commitment to the art of construction and material innovation in the Hudson Square offices. He was formerly a founding partner of Artifact Design + Construction.

    Eric G. Feiss has joined the architectural staff of GWWO, Inc./Architects. Feiss holds a Bachelor of Arts from Franklin & Marshall College and a Masters of Architecture from Morgan State University.  At GWWO, Feiss currently serves as the project manager for the repair and rehabilitation of the Memorial Building at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site and as a member of the design team for the expansion of the Fredericksburg Area Museum & Cultural Center. GWWO, Inc. is a full service architectural firm in Baltimore, Maryland that specializes in the planning and design of cultural and educational facilities.  Current projects include new museum and visitor facilities for George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens, renovations to the Mount Royal Station for Maryland Institute College of Art and a new Heritage Center for Homestead National Monument of America in Nebraska.

    The American College of the Building Arts, located in Charleston, South Carolina, has announced the hiring of its complete first-year faculty, and additional administration members, as it heads toward the first day of classes on August 22nd. The College is the only four-year degree-granting institution that is solely focused on preparing artisans for contemporary careers in the classic building trades. Six majors will be offered: architectural metal, architectural stone, carpentry, masonry, plaster working, and timber framing.

    SmithGroup, the eighth largest architecture, engineering, planning, and interiors firm in the nation, has appointed James T. Hannon as its new president of California operations. Hannon, previously a senior vice president, replaces former president Rebecca Nolan. Hannon leads both the Los Angeles and San Francisco offices, which have more than 3 million square feet of work in design and construction across the state over the next 12 months. Hannon has been responsible for managing SmithGroup California’s healthcare planning and programming studio and has 25 years of practice with SmithGroup.

    Caterpilar, Inc. and the partners creating the new Central Illinois Regional Museum have jointly selected Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership (ZGF) to design the seven-acre Museum Square site in downtown Peoria, Illinois. The complex will include the 50,000 square-foot Caterpillar Visitor Center, a new 110,000 square-foot regional museum, parking, and retail space. ZFG will work with the Peoria architects and engineers PSA-Dewberry and STS Consultants. ZFG offices can be found in Portland, Oregon; Seattle; Los Angeles; and Washington, D.C.

    Gould Evans announced the promotion of Donna Barry, RA to principal of their Phoenix, Arizona office. Barry has been with Gould Evans since 1998 and was promoted to vice president in 2004. Barry has focused much of her 17-year career on the design of performing arts venues. These projects include the Stevie Eller Dance Theatre at the University of Arizona, the Chandler Gilbert Community College Performing Arts Center and the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Performing Arts Center at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. All three of these projects won 2003 AIA awards for Arizona and Utah. Prior to joining Gould Evans, Barry worked with Peter Eisenman of Eisenman Architects, William Pederson of Kohn Pederson Fox and Arizona’s Will Bruder.
