    Steinberg Architects has been awarded the campus master plan and programming commission for Crafton Hills College (CHC) by the San Bernardino Community College District board of trustees.  The master plan is aimed at aiding the college in accommodating increases in enrollment over the next 20 years. Initial plans include the proposed construction of a new learning resource center, which will house an expanded library as well as computer labs, classrooms, and campus departments; a new humanities/technology building; a swimming pool; and the renovation of several existing buildings, including infrastructure and utility upgrades. The master-planning team includes David Hart, AIA, principal in charge, and Gilbert Rocca, project manager.

    The Park Hyatt Philadelphia at The Bellevue is working with interior design firm Marguerite Rodgers, Ltd., and architect A. Robert Torres, AIA, of Studio Torres on the renovation of the historic building's 19th floor. The project is anticipated to take approximately six months. The renovated floor will feature two sophisticated new restaurants, a new nightclub/lounge, a chef’s "viewing island" and "market pantry," a chef’s dining room, a wine room, a new guest check-in lobby and business center, and new meeting spaces to replace the existing Rose Garden Ballroom and several additional meeting and banquet areas. The Bellevue was built from 1902 to 1904, and has been visited by every U.S. president since Theodore Roosevelt.

    Toronto-based Diamond + Schmitt Architects Inc., in association with sports designer Ellerbe Becket, will provide consulting services for a recreation complex at the University of Toronto. Plans feature a 5,000-seat stadium, playing field, and track that will revitalize the former Varsity Stadium site at Bloor Street and Devonshire Place. Construction of the seating, field and track is expected to be completed by fall 2006. This first phase of the project will cost an estimated $16 million, with the total projected cost for the complex at $56 million.

    Jean Hansen, a senior associate with architecture firm Chong Partners, has been tapped for major roles with two interior design professional organizations. This week she takes the helm of the Northern California chapter of the International Interior Design Association as president, and she is among 20 founding members to be inducted into the new American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers at the national design conference, NeoCon, in Chicago. Hansen is currently engaged in master planning for two large medical facilities: the Kaiser San Rafael and CHW Mercy Redding campuses.

    Susan R. Arneson is the new corporate marketing director for SmithGroup, an architectural, engineering, planning, and interior design firm located in Detroit, Michigan. Previously, Arneson served as manager of marketing and PR at Albert Kahn Associates. As corporate marketing director for SmithGroup, Arneson will oversee strategic corporate marketing initiatives, including support of the firm’s national practices and client satisfaction program. Arneson has more than 25 years of experience marketing professional technical services, including 15 years in the built environment.

    RTKL Associates, Inc., an international planning and architecture firm, was chosen in a unanimous decision to master plan the Illinois Medical District. The medical district is 640 acres, located in the heart of Springfield, Illinois, and was created to encourage the growth of medical services in the district while preserving and maintaining nearby residential areas. The site currently includes two hospitals as well as the Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine.

    The design firm ForrestPerkins has been commissioned to create and to construct the B.B. King Museum in B.B. King’s hometown of Indianola, Mississippi. The museum is designed to honor B.B. King’s legacy and his music, and it will be dedicated to preserving Delta blues heritage. The building site contains a building where B.B. King worked as a mechanic as a young man. Ground was broken on the project on June 10, 2005.

    DFD Cornoyer Hedrick has announced the addition of Leo V. Mendez, Jr. as a senior designer with the firm’s retail team. Mendez has 18 years of experience as a lead designer and project architect, and has worked on projects throughout the United States. His past work includes urban planning, historic preservation, retail, commercial, municipal, and educational projects.

    Perkins Eastman has opened a new office in McLean, Virginia. Part of the firm's continued international expansion, the new office will serve current clients in the greater Washington area, and provide a full range of programming, planning, architectural, and interior design services. Principal John Chadwick, AIA is heading the new office. Chadwick previously worked in the New York office of Perkins Eastman and has more than 25 years of experience.

    Seven new employees have been added to the interior design studio of Carrier Johnson, a leading architecture and interior design firm located in California. The new hires are Todd Shumaker, Marianne Berg, Jeremy Haskins, Vinnie Yeung, Stacy Buckley, Nicole Baker, and Karen Blackerby. Shumaker is a senior interior designer and Berg is a senior project manager. Carrier Johnson was extablished in 1977, and has offices in San Diego, Costa Mesa, Sacramento, and Oakland.
