TADAO ANDO GOES FOR THE GOLD
The International Union of Architects has announced that the distinguished Japanese architect Tadao Ando will receive the UIA 2005 Gold Medal. This prestigious honor is awarded to living architects for their contributions to society through the art of architecture. Next week, we'll see why this honor is due Ando's built work such as The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas (pictured) and Times II in Kyoto, Japan.

COOL COLORS: COOLER ROOFS
Roofs and the rainbow of colors used in roofing materials are getting cooler, thanks to research by scientists in the Environmental Energy Technologies Division (EETD) of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In warm climates, the more roofs reflect the sun’s radiation, the more energy and money they save. Next week, EETD News editor Allan Chen will describe a new research program in cool materials that is developing the first cool shingle for residential roofs.
