    HOK Group, Inc. announced new appointments in executive positions. Bill Hellmuth, AIA, was named president, replacing current president Bill Valentine, who will assume the position of chairman of the board of directors. Hellmuth is currently the senior principal and design director of HOK's Washington, D.C. office. In addition, Toby Bath, managing director of Asia operations, and Karen League, director of interior design for HOK Atlanta, were elected to the board of directors, along with 23 board members reelected to serve additional terms.

    Joel V. Stauber joined the firm of Lohan Anderson, LLC as new director of planning. Among other projects of note, Stauber previously worked with Lohan and Anderson in completing master plans for Cityfront Center along the Chicago River. As director of planning, he will be responsible for leading the business development, design, and management of planning projects.

    Herb Nadel, FAIA, founder of Nadel Architects, Inc., announced that Dan Meis has joined the firm as president. Meis began his career in the Chicago office of Murphy/Jahn. Mentored by Helmut Jahn, Meis has worked on award-winning office towers in Chicago; New York; Frankfurt, Germany; and Durban, South Africa. Meis has also been recognized for his award-winning designs of large-scale civic and commercial developments, including Staples Center in Los Angeles, and Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.

    Denis Milsom, vice president of Shen Milsom & Wilke, died on this day. As an acoustician, he worked on projects ranging from television studios to library reading rooms and healthcare facilities, and was a member of the Acoustical Society of America and former member of the board of directors of the National Council of Acoustical Consultants. Milsom mentored dozens of young people and will be greatly missed.

    Florida-based Harper Partners, Inc. and Atlanta-based Aiken Aiken & Sheetz merged to form Harper Aiken Partners. The new firm is headed by CEO and chairman David Harper, FAIA, the nation's youngest architect to obtain Lifetime Achievement Fellowship status in the American Institute of Architects, and by Stewart Aiken, AIA, as president. Harper Aiken Partners is currently working on projects at Florida International University and Georgia Southwestern State University, among others.

    Michael Crook was appointed to the position of managing director of the London Studio of Douglas Wallace Architects, Designers, and Project Managers. Crook's interest in large span structures has led him to develop a particular expertise in the master planning and design of sport and leisure buildings, including over 20 horse racing facilities. He also contributed to the design of the new Wembley Stadium.

    Susan Katz joined the San Francisco office of HGA Architects & Engineers as business developer. She will specialize in the arts, community, and education markets for Northern California. Previously, Katz served as business development associate for Kenney & Associates in Oakland, California.

    Lyons Warren has promoted Tracy Lindquist to principal of the firm, with coprincipals Richard Warren, Glenn Mouritzen, and Steve Schneider. Lindquist initially joined Lyons Warren in 1988 as a draftsman, and eventually became a senior project manager for Price Club stores and other projects. Lyons Warren, founded in 1979, specializes in retail design, food service, and commercial design.
