Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
Architecture Puzzler #235
Question
More and more often, Aspergillus versicolor, Stachybotrys atra, and Stachybotrys chartarum have been mentioned in the news. Why should you care?
Answer
These are three of the "bad molds" that have been found to cause occupant health problems in buildings. Typically fostered by water infiltration, particularly in gypsum wallboard and behind poorly installed exterior insulating and finishing systems (EIFS), these molds produce mycotoxins that are known to cause adverse health effects.
