CALATRAVA AND MURPHY/JAHN RECEIVE TOP HONORS
Internationally acclaimed architect Santiago Calatrava, FAIA, has been selected to receive the 2005 AIA Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects. This prestigious honor recognizes an individual whose significant body of work has had a lasting influence on the theory and practice of architecture. Among his work in the United States is the expansion of the Milwaukee Art Museum (photo by AP/World Wide Photos). Next week we'll examine his work and that of Murphy/Jahn, the Chicago firm that has received the 2005 AIA Architecture Firm Award.

TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE IN LIBRARIES
Now that computer technologies have radically changed library materials and our means of access to information, the nature of library buildings is also changing. Technology systems encompass digital devices, digital media, operating systems, digital networks and servers, wireless systems, and much more. The necessary infrastructure has made the library a more technically complex building type for architects to master. Next week, a team from Libris Design will explain some of these systems.
