    Logistical Metamorphosis

    by ArchitectureWeek

A collection of old industrial sheds and warehouses in Krems, Austria has experienced a metamorphosis into a high-tech research center for Eybl International, a leading supplier of textiles to the automotive industry. By means of glazed roofing and careful spatial zoning, the architects have brought daylight deep into the large buildings.

The "new" facility was developed in two phases by the architecture and engineering firm Achammer-Tritthart + Partner (ATP), Vienna. ATP's challenge was not only to turn industrial buildings into office space; they were also asked to give Eybl International a new corporate image.

Eybl researches, designs, and produces textile and/or leather seat covers and other interior elements for nine of the world's top automakers. The company is valued within the industry for its innovation in high-end products, short development cycles, and stringent cost controls.

The architectural concept centered on two themes of communication and association. "Communication" is represented in the daylit, interconnected interior spaces and in a visual dialogue between inside and outside.   >>>
