With talent contributed from all over the Pacific rim, the Northwest and Pacific Region chapter of the American Institute of Architects is arguably the most diverse chapter of the AIA. This year's awards program reflects that diversity, with tributes to projects in Alaska, Hong Kong, Korea, and California, as well as Washington and Oregon.

One of the four awards of honor went to Koonce Pfeffer Bettis, Inc. for the BP Energy Center in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a corporate building — integrating energy-industry interpretive displays into the design — performing a civic function by providing meeting and training spaces for nonprofit community groups.

The two-story complex is made of three modules connected to each other by low glass corridors that also serve as exhibit spaces. Throughout are variously sized conference spaces, some of which incorporate teleconference equipment to reach out to this vast state.   >>>
