DESIGN MEETS BUSINESS IN MONTRÉAL
This spring, the City of Montréal held a gala to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Commerce Design Montréal contest. For the past decade, the event has brought together the business community and design professionals to demonstrate how the quality of the urban environment affects the city’s economic competitiveness, cultural scene, and identity. Among the 20 Jury Grand Prize winners for 2004 was the Cluny Artbar designed by Jérémia Gendron (Photo by Marc Cramer). Next week we'll see how design and business come together in this Canadian city.

RESURRECTION FROM BROKEN GLASS
The camera moves slowly through the portal of the synagogue. Running at 25 frames per second, it travels up into the vaulted ceiling. But there is no film crew, and the synagogue was one of about 1,400 Jewish religious buildings destroyed during "Kristallnacht" ("Night of Broken Glass") on November 9, 1938. Now some of these beautiful buildings have been reconstructed through computer modeling by students at the Technical University in Darmstadt. Next week we'll see how they accomplished the resurrection.
