Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
Architecture Puzzler #199
Question
Cycle test and twist tests are performed on what common building product?
Answer
Doors. To meet ANSI 250.4, a 16-gage steel door must withstand 1 million cycles (500,000 cycles for an 18-gage) and cannot be pushed more than 1-1/4 inches (32 millimeters) out of an opening when a 300-pound (135-kilogram) force is applied to a corner. In the twist test, three corners are attached and the fourth corner is tested.
