ARCHITECTS TAKE INTEREST IN PLASTIC WRAPPER
Inspired by material science and the printing industry, "SmartWrap" is a printed film whose architectural applications are being explored by the Philadelphia firm KieranTimberlake Associates LLP. Their pavilion (Barry Halkin Photographer) demonstrates architectural and artistic concepts as well as the associated technologies. Next week we'll see how these thin walls can speed construction while providing shelter, climate control, lighting, and information display.

BONDING WITH A WALL FROM THE PAST
Designed, built, and occupied by Bovis Lend Lease, an office building in Sydney, Australia known as "30 The Bond" is striking in several respects. The Sustainable Energy Development Authority has awarded the design five stars under the Australian Building Greenhouse Rating scheme. Its interior layout displays an unusual commitment to workplace openness. And a central design feature reminds workers of the site's historic roots. An exposed four-story stone wall is the side of a trench dug through sandstone by 19th-century convict laborers. Next week we'll explore further.
