LIBESKIND IN LONDON
The new, modestly sized Graduate Centre for London Metropolitan University is the first London building of Daniel Libeskind. It's not a glamorous commission, compared to his World Trade Center project in New York, nor does it have a particularly meaningful site, as does his Jewish Museum in Berlin. Why did he accept this commission? In his words, "every building is important" and "London needs good architecture." Next week Terri Whitehead will tell us more about what makes this small building significant.

A "GREEN SPACESHIP" PREPARES FOR TAKEOFF
In Lake Zurich, Illinois, Legat Architects have just completed a combined elementary and middle school, which they designed to minimize environmental abuse and to save operational costs. The building demonstrates the latest sustainable design trends including shared facilities, efficient orientation and glazings, a heat recovery system that adapts to the season, and low-toxicity construction materials. But it's the green prepatinated copper of the entrance that has attracted the attention of the children. Says their principal: "They keep waiting for it to blast off!"
