PERFORMING IN SYDNEY
When a restaurant opens adjacent to a theater lobby, one might well expect a dramatic play of lights and space. Indeed, designers with the Australian architecture firm PTW have served up a class act with their Hickson Road Bistro. The space works equally well during the day and night, but it's the after-dark performance of color and light that patrons of the arts won't want to miss. Next week we'll raise the curtain and take a look.

SHARING STREETS WITH PEOPLE
One of the most intriguing design concepts in the shaping of residential neighborhoods is the "shared street." Used simultaneously for vehicular movement, social contacts, and civic activities, such a street is a physical and social part of the living environment. Although these characteristics are found in traditional European and American neighborhoods, they are missing from contemporary American suburbs. Next week authors Michael Southworth and Eran Ben-Joseph will show why they deserve a second look.
