Ironically, the beautiful steel houses of Pierre Koenig, with their stunning, frank simplicity, graceful proportions, and sunny, contextually attuned openness, could hardly expect anonymity in an American landscape of neocolonial, neoclassical, and neovernacular norms.

B.C. CAMPUS COMPOSITE
In the realm of mixed-use developments, certain mixes of use have become commonplace: office and retail; housing and schools; cultural and entertainment facilities. But a new complex for Surrey, British Columbia, Canada has drawn attention by combining an unlikely pair: a regional shopping mall and a campus for a major university.

ZAHA HADID PRITZKER PRIZE
Zaha Hadid, an Iraqi-born British architect, has been chosen as the 2004 Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. In announcing the jury's choice, Thomas J. Pritzker, president of The Hyatt Foundation, said, "Although her body of work is relatively small, she has achieved great acclaim and her energy and ideas show even greater promise for the future."
