Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
Architecture Puzzler #184
Question
On average, the sun striking a one-square-meter surface produces the equivalent of 1000 watts of energy. If an advanced-design photovoltaic array were set up on that same square meter, how much energy could it harvest? How about a consumer-grade photovoltaic array?
Answer
A state-of-the-art photovoltaic system on a one-square-meter surface could harvest about 200 watts; a consumer-grade system, about 100 watts.
