In 1981, the East Wing of the National Gallery of Art, designed by I.M. Pei, was the recipient of a national honor award from the American Institute of Architects. Last month, the Washington D.C. building was further honored with the AIA's Twenty-Five Year Award for architecture of enduring significance.

When the furniture company Cisco Brothers decided to build a new showroom in Los Angeles, they realized their impact could extend beyond a single building. They had ambitions to uplift the entire South L.A. neighborhood that is home to numerous furniture manufacturers. Now, phase one of the resulting master plan has received national recognition through an honor award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
FARNSWORTH HOUSE SAVED
On the morning of December 18, 2003, historic preservationists were casting a worried eye on the Farnsworth House, designed by 20th-century architect Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe. The famous 1951 steel-and-glass house was to be auctioned at Sotheby's that day, and its fate would depend on whoever emerged as high bidder.
