BAROQUE MASTER REVISITED
In 1714, in the middle of the High Baroque, the Duke of Savoy hired the young Sicilian architect, Filippo Juvarra, to transform the city of Turin, Italy. The duke wanted the capital of the powerful House of Savoy to become a modern, successful city that would show that Savoy stood at the forefront of world architecture. Some believe Juvarra's finest building to be the massive hunting lodge, the Stupingi (pictured). Next week author Richard Haut will outline Juvarra's career and influences.
