    SUSTAINABILITY NORTHEAST

    "Green" Building design, as it becomes increasingly adopted by U.S. architects, is about more than conserving energy and natural resources. In green building, design criteria broaden to include fostering a sense of community, maintaining healthy environments, and preserving historic properties. These were some of the themes of the 2003 awards program of the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA), which recently made awards to workplaces, schools, and residential projects.

    PRESERVING GEORGIA'S HERITAGE

    The Georgia Trust, a nonprofit preservation organization, has recently honored 22 building projects that have been restored to historical accuracy or rehabilitated for a new use. In addition, University of Georgia professor John C. Waters received the organization's top award for leadership in preservation issues and education.

    AIA/ALA LIBRARY BUILDING AWARDS 2003

    The American Library Association and the American Institute of Architects have selected the recipients of the 2003 AIA/ALA Library Building Awards. The seven projects exemplify excellence in the design of literary settings from the renovation of a historic reading room to a temporary facility with a tropical flair.
