    Quizzical Pursuit
    —The Architecture Puzzler

    Created by Dave Guadagni

    Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
    Architecture Puzzler #134

    Question

If you increase the cement content in your concrete mix design you can expect which two of the following to be true:

    a) A higher early strength
    b) A change in slump and improved workability
    c) An increase in the temperature of the mix which would produce longer set times
    d) A decrease in the air content of air-entrained mixes

    Answer

Answers (a) and (d) are true. As for answer (b), there would be a possible change in slump but less workability. As for (c), while you could expect an increase in temperature, this would produce shorter rather than longer set times.
