Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
Architecture Puzzler #111
Question
The concrete in use today has evolved beyond a simple mix of gravel, cement, and water. Now concrete is often tailored to fit specific design needs through the inclusion of special admixtures. Can you name five classes of admixtures?
Answer
The following classes of admixtures are often added to concrete mixes: superplasticizers, water reducers, retarders, air entrainers, accelerators, viscosity enhancers, and antifreeze admixtures. Any five of these would answer the quiz!
