    Quizzical Pursuit
    —The Architecture Puzzler

    Created by Dave Guadagni

    Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
    Architecture Puzzler #98

    Question

    What is ultra thin whitetopping?

    Answer

Ultra thin whitetopping is a concrete overlay 2 to 4 inches (50 to 100 millimeters) thick, with closely spaced joints bonded to an existing asphalt pavement. A remedy for rutted asphalt, it uses bridge deck overlay bonding technology to produce a bonded composite pavement with minimized tensile stresses in the concrete layer.
