    BUILDING BOSTON 2001

    The 17th annual "Build Boston" conference and trade show held on November 13-15, 2001, captured critical themes foremost in many minds these days.

    Norbert W. Young, Jr. FAIA, president of the McGraw-Hill Construction Information Group, gave a keynote address titled "The Construction Industry in the Age of Anxiety." He spoke of the reality of our facing the first recession in the United States in a decade.

    WILKINSON EYRE WIN STIRLING PRIZE

    An abandoned steel works in the north of England, converted into a science adventure theme park, has won this year's Stirling Prize, the United Kingdom's most prestigious award for architecture.

    The steelworks in Rotherham provides a cathedral-like theatre for industrial history, taking what could have been a glum reflection of the past and turning it into an interactive adventure with humor and excitement.
