    Classic Home 013

    ArchWeek Image

Exterior overview of Classic Home 013, designed by Frederick L. Ackerman, Architect.

"Here is a well planned four-room bungalow. The wide siding and vertical batten strips, with overhanging eaves and exposed rafter ends, create a rustic impression for the exterior that is novel and artistic. One may enter the living room from the stoop or from the porch. This room extends across the entire end of the house. Instead of an ordinary dining room there is a sunny little breakfast room, separated from the kitchen by a broad opening."

From 500 Small Houses of the Twenties, complied by Henry Atterbury Smith, from "The Books of a Thousand Homes," copyright 1923. The 1990 edition is published by Dover Publications, ISBN 0-486-26300-2.
