Classic Home 007
|
Exterior overview of Classic Home 007, a modest saltbox design by George H. Van Ando, Architect
"There are pleasing proportions and attractive roof lines in this design. The house is extremely simple and would for that reason be inexpensive to build. All the rooms are well lighted from the sides, and in omitting the windows on the front, except for two small ones either side of the door, an individual character has been given the house. The house could be placed close to the street and the rear of the lot reserved for garden and lawn. The second floor is well supplied with closets."
From 500 Small Houses of the Twenties, complied by Henry Atterbury Smith, from "The Books of a Thousand Homes," copyright 1923. The 1990 edition is published by Dover Publications, ISBN 0-486-26300-2.
