    Classic Home 001

    ArchWeek Photo

Exterior overview of Classic Home 001, designed by Frederick L. Ackerman, Architect

"This an economically-built square type of home. The exterior has simple lines with principal walls of siding. The brick foundation and porch walls afford an opportunity to use color. The expense of the small roofs over the second story and attic windows might be saved without detracting from the appearance of the house. The reception hall serves as a vestibule. There is an impressive stairway to the second floor. There is a pretty bay in the dining room."

From 500 Small Houses of the Twenties, complied by Henry Atterbury Smith, from "The Books of a Thousand Homes," copyright 1923. The 1990 edition is published by Dover Publications, ISBN 0-486-26300-2.
