MIES, CLASSICAL MODERNIST In New York this summer, Mies van der Rohe seems to be everywhere, in addition to where you'll always find him, at his Seagram Building on Park Avenue. The "Mies in Berlin" exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and "Mies in America" at the Whitney Museum of American Art bookend the work of one of the most celebrated Modern architects.

CALIFORNIA ARCHITECTURE AWARDS At the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles in June, the American Institute of Architects, California Council (AIACC) handed out its annual kudos to architects and allied professionals. Six honor awards and nine merit awards were presented to recent projects, celebrating design excellence among the state's practitioners. Some of these are described below.
