The world's newest international airport is also one of its largest. At over two million square feet (185,000 square meters), Incheon Airport brings South Korea closer to the rest of the world. This is the creation of Fentress Bradburn Architects of Denver, Colorado in association with Korean Architects Collaborative International. In the main terminal, natural light penetrates the vast interior spaces through extensive skylights and canted curtain walls. The exposed structure celebrates traditional Korean industries like shipping and steel production. Next week, ArchitectureWeek contributing editor Clair Enlow will take us on a tour of this example of high-tech environmentalism.

This level of interaction poses special challenges for school architects who must design multipurpose laboratories that both foster creativity and ensure safety. Next week we'll explore some lessons learned by Fanning/Howey Associates, Inc., which they've compiled in the book, Middle Schools: Shaping the Future.

Will this exhibit show him as tireless master of invention? Or image-maker for the rich and powerful? Next week, join ArchitectureWeek contributing editor Michael J. Crosbie as he hikes up the spiral ramp to find out.
