NEW CAD ON THE BLOCK

The Hillier Group, of Princeton, New Jersey, has a long history with computer-aided design. Recently the architecture firm has added to their repertoire a new software product that they believe to be revolutionary in the world of CAD.

Revit, from Revit Technology Corporation, changes traditional design and project management models for the AEC industry. It offers an integrated, digital model of a building that can be used to maintain and operate that building throughout its lifecycle.

PRACTICING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Le Corbusier visited the Rogue River Ford factory in 1935; that evening he spoke at Cranbrook Academy:

This is the dramatic conflict, which is strangling architecture, which causes building to remain off the roads of progress. In the Ford factory, everything is collaboration, unity of views, unity of purpose, a perfect convergence of the totality of gestures and ideas.

FREE SOFTWARE FOR ENERGY CODE COMPLIANCE

As the many building codes in the United States struggle for standardization, energy consumption seems to be one area achieving consensus. Many states now base their energy code compliance on the Model Energy Code (MEC '92, '93, or '95) for residential buildings, and on ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90-1-1989 for commercial structures.
