    —The Architecture Puzzler

    Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
    Architecture Puzzler #45

    Question

    What are ball drop tests?

    Answer

Ball drop tests are used to test glass strength. A 1.75-pound (794-gram) steel ball is dropped from 12 inches (30 centimeters), then raised 12 inches (30 centimeters) after every successful drop, until a 12-inch (30-centimeter) square sample breaks.
