NBBJ, the second largest architecture firm in the world, has just won a national award for the Doan Hall Labor and Delivery Unit at The Ohio State University's Medical Center. The project incorporates hotel-like amenities and spacious rooms, with natural materials, curved wall planes, and high ceilings. Yet the design team balanced such elegance with the architectural details and durable finishes needed to accommodate the advanced technology and rigorous use found in a leading university medical center.
INFORMED ARCHITECTURE
Now that architects have so much information at their fingertips, how can they find meaning in it without being overwhelmed by its sheer quantity? One solution, according to Chicago firm O’Donnell Wicklund Pigozzi & Peterson Architects, Inc., is to tame the information glut into a few visual, easily understood alternatives. Next week we'll learn about their conceptual prototyping experiment called Function 2 Form (F2F). OWP&P presented this work at the December, 2000 Architects Technology Summit, cosponsored by CMD Group and Greenway Consulting.
