THE ART OF WEB SITE DESIGN
Over two-thirds of design firms plan to redesign their Web site in the coming year, according to ZweigWhite, a management consulting firm. But in their rush to redesign, many firms seem doomed to repeat fundamental mistakes they made on earlier versions. Next week, Mark Goodale, a principal with ZweigWhite, outlines several principles of Web site design and discusses some exemplary sites, such as the one from Bloodgood Sharp Buster Architects & Planners, Inc.

A WALK-IN SCULPTURE REPRESENTS THE EARTH
"A Time Odyssey: 2001," if ever constructed, will be a 21-foot (6-meter) diameter clock in Sofia, Bulgaria. The clock-sphere consist of two halves, one of glass representing day, and the other opaque metal, symbolizing night. The monument simultaneously shows the local time and the time on every place on Earth. Architect Milan Belemezov says his design symbolizes the new millennium and a promise of a prosperous future for his country.

Practitioners and educators have long disagreed about which skills should be taught in architecture schools. Should students concentrate on design and theory?
